INTERCULTURAL DEVELOPMENT INVENTORY (IDI)

Understand your blind spots and become a stronger, more thoughtful leader across differences.

WHAT IS THE IDI?

The Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) is a validated, research-based assessment used worldwide by organizations, schools, faith communities, and leaders to measure intercultural competence.

Rather than evaluating values or political positions, the IDI measures your orientation toward cultural difference — how you perceive, interpret, and respond to difference in real-world situations.

It identifies:

  • Your current developmental orientation

  • The gap between how you see yourself and how you function under stress

  • Specific next steps for growth

This is not a personality test.

It is a developmental tool.

Why This Matters Right Now

Cultural tension is not going away. Demographic shifts, polarization, and global connectivity mean we are constantly navigating difference — whether we feel prepared or not.

Without intentional development:

  • Leaders react defensively.

  • Teams fracture under stress.

  • Communities default to misunderstanding.

  • Good people unintentionally cause harm.

The IDI gives you language and structure to move beyond reactivity and into growth.

Through this process, you will strengthen:

  • Engage across difference without freezing, posturing, or shutting down.

  • Understand your own cultural lens so you can stay grounded while engaging others.

  • Make decisions informed by awareness, not assumption.

WHO IS THIS FOR?

  • Leaders navigating diverse teams

  • Faith communities engaging cultural complexity

  • Educators and nonprofit professionals

  • White leaders seeking accountable growth

  • Individuals committed to long-term development, not quick answers

Why Work with Rooted Mosaic?

The IDI is only as impactful as the conversation that follows it.

When you engage the IDI through Rooted Mosaic, you are not just receiving a report — you are entering a guided developmental process.

I bring:

  • Experience leading intercultural growth in classrooms, nonprofit settings, and faith communities

  • A coaching posture rooted in curiosity, steadiness, and accountability

  • Lived experience navigating identity, power, and belonging in complex cultural contexts

  • A commitment to growth that is honest, humane, and actionable

I do not use the IDI to label or shame.
I use it to clarify.

Together, we will:

  • Name where you are

  • Explore how your orientation developed

  • Identify practical next steps for growth in your specific context

This work requires nuance. It requires safety. It requires someone who understands both systems and the human heart.

That is the space I hold.

  • No. The IDI is developmental, not diagnostic. It identifies current orientation and a pathway forward — not fixed traits.

  • Yes. I offer team assessments and facilitated group debriefs.

  • That’s normal. The goal is growth, not exposure. This process is designed to build capacity, not diminish dignity.
