You care about doing this right. That matters.
Navigating culture, identity, and difference can feel overwhelming — even when your heart is in the right place. Rooted Mosaic walks alongside individuals, teams, and organizations in developing cultural self-awareness, intercultural agility, and the courage to show up with integrity.
Many individuals and teams want to foster belonging, justice, and connection—and feel stuck, unsure, or overwhelmed. You might be here because:
You’re not sure how to talk about culture, identity, or race without causing harm.
You want to engage well across difference but lack shared language or tools.
Your team desires belonging yet struggles with tension or silence.
You’re navigating your own cultural identity and want grounded clarity.
You see gaps between your values and your practices and want guidance to close them.
You’re committed to change but need a clear, hopeful starting point.
DOES THIS SOUND FAMILIAR?
You’re not alone. And you don’t have to figure it out by yourself.
A ROOTED, REDEMPTIVE APPROACH
Rooted Mosaic integrates story, systems, and self-awareness so that growth becomes practical, transformative, and sustainable — not just a one-time training or a box to check.
Together, we’ll help you:
Name and understand your cultural story
Build skills to engage across difference with humility and courage
Recognize the systems shaping your context
Lead with clarity, authenticity, and compassion
Create spaces of belonging where every story matters
Start here. The Cultural Patterns We Carry is a free, private guided reflection tool based on Dr. Tema Okun’s framework of white supremacy culture. It’s not a test or a scorecard — it’s a quiet space to look honestly at the patterns you’ve inherited, and to begin imagining something different.
No scores. No judgment. Just you, some honest questions, and your own words.

Meet Julia
I’m Julia Van Der Werf — founder of Rooted Mosaic and an intercultural coach who works at the intersection of identity, leadership, and belonging.
My work has been shaped by years of teaching, community-based leadership, and walking alongside people navigating difference in real, imperfect contexts. I’m rooted in Minneapolis, raising three boys in the middle school years, and continually learning how to live with intention — aligning what we believe with how we show up.
I don’t approach this work as someone with all the answers, but as a fellow learner committed to growth, honesty, and repair. I believe meaningful change happens in community — when we listen well, stay curious, and choose to grow together.
